“From watching wild chickens roam the sidewalks and patches of green in my neighbourhood, I thought for a second that perhaps, chickens will outnumber us one day.”
Talk Cock Sing Song, a zine by The Slow Press and Kenn Lam, is an intersection between the fantasies and realities of chicken, a commodity that plays a significant role in Singaporean diets. Living in a nation that prides itself on its Hainanese Chicken Rice, the writers explore their personal connection to poultry and the role they play in a local context.
This zine is a cumulation of our friendship, rekindling our love for exploring food beyond the plate. Its name is reminiscent of the karaoke bar along Upper Thomson Road, which has been there for as long as the both can remember. Enjoy this mix of serious and fun, with some frivolous bits that will have you cackling away.
