Write poetry that is uniquely you. By drawing from your own personal lexicon of symbols, sensory memories, and niche cultural references, you will create work that is hyperspecific to your lived experience. Together, we will brainstorm symbols that hold meaning for us and channel their wisdom to answer the questions we carry every day. Through guided writing activities and collective reflection, we will also explore how creating hyperspecific work can be used to combat archetypes of tokenistic diaspora poetry, which often paints the migrant experience in broad strokes. This generative poetry workshop is for poets and for other writers trying to find their unique visual and literary language.
This is the first event in a two-part poetry workshop presented by Eunice Andrada and supported by Magenta House. The last workshop Finding Form – Poetry Editing Workshop takes place on 17 May. Participants are open to attend both sessions, however this is not mandatory. Tickets sold separately.
