Janggay Finger Extenders are used to accompany the traditional pre-colonial Filipino Pangalay dance tradition. Designed to resemble the movement of oceanic waves and graceful finger gestures, ‘Pangalay’ translates to ‘gift’ or ‘offering’ and is an ancient movement practice often performed by the Tau’sug people of the Sulu Archipelago. These hand-made extenders are crafted from metal and aluminium. They have adjustable finger coils and tips, with dangling accoutrements.
Limited batches are available to buy for people interested in Pangalay culture. Supplied by Pangalay dancer master and Ta’u Sug Cultural Bearer Sitti Airia Sangkula Askalani-Obeso, this is a follow-up to her
movement and food cultures residency at Magenta House in March 2025.
