Makisawsaw Recipes x Ideas: Community Gardens Edition
In Tagalog, 'makisawsaw' has two meanings it's the act of dipping food into a mixture or sauce. It also means to meddle, or get involved or partake in issues and concerns, especially in social affairs.
Makisawsaw Recipes x Ideas: Community Gardens Edition is a collection of over 70 recipes alongside essays by Filipino farmers, plant-based chefs, fermenters, food justice activists, community workers, and more. Published by Gantala Press, the book unpacks the socio-political issues surrounding the meals that we eat - such as food insecurity, agro-sustainability, and community kitchens as acts of resistance.
Makisawsaw invites us to eat and act in solidarity—from the garden to the kitchen, by positioning food as agents of change.
